Hello! I’m Edald Hopfield, a writer from Meanjin|Brisbane who has collected way more interests than can fit in my filing cabinet. Come for writing and reading and stay for magic and mayhem
(ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧
Aquila is an Omega-5. A new model service-droid that is designed for flawless assistance in one’s day-to-day. Its core law forbids it to harm, or allow harm to come to, humans.
Rini is a kid on the street who trusts and listens to no one. Her primary instinct is to eat, run, fight and sleep.
When the pair meet eyes on a rainy night, Aquila’s core law engages in a way that no one could expect, resulting in a tumultuous relationship that brings unease to the world around them.
My debut novel, Rini & Butler, releases October 31st!
Launches here September 1st!
Includes:
x1 signed paperback copy of Rini & Butler,
x2 Rini & Butler stickers,
x1 Hopfield supporter sticker,
x2 Rini & Butler bookmarks
I acknowledge the Turrbal and Yuggera people, the traditional custodians of the land on which I live, work and create. I also pay respect to the Elders past, present and emerging. Writing to you from Meanjin|Brisbane.

Uh, hey, I don’t think they’ve learnt their lesson yet. We have not milked the schadenfreude enough. My guilty pleasure genre is “revenge” (I like to think of it more as “justice”), or in this specific instance “revenge romance” (isekais are rife with this trope and so it was hard to stay away from). The…
What happened last week? I worked on some of the errors in Rini & Butler that my family friend let me know about (this is the same co-worker that watched me wail in the break room when she told me). I also double-triple-checked the timeline to make sure I don’t accidentally rug-yank the release. I…
Keep your fantasies but be safe in the real world! And if you have some fun recommendations that would have changed my mind about romance novels growing up, drop them below 🫰 . If it helps, I’ve developed a guilty pleasure for Austen situations: where women assert themselves and men grovel and actually admit what…

I went to the Brisbane Illustrator Fair twice this year. It is so much fun collecting great art from local artists! I went on a bit of a spiel about it on Instagram.
Keep readingTo all my trans brothers, sisters and siblings: may your day be easy today, your existence positive and your hobby time enjoyable (˵ •̀ ᴗ •́ ˵ ) ♡. Have a great one today! And to everyone else, I wish you what you wish for trans people ◝(ᵔᗜᵔ)◜
Keep readingThe rains are on and off but the winds are definitely cooling, sweeping in the fresh air of autumn, winter on the edge of it. This week has been particularly tiring with the double workload but it has made me appreciate my free time more, particularly when I have the energy for it. I’m currently…
